Aerial maps

Post by siby » Fri Apr 27, 2007 5:59 pm

There have been few web sites and programmes demonstrating satellite photos of various parts of earth in great detail. Google maps/google earth seem to be the pioneers in this. Wikimapia, which is based on google earth maps even allow users to mark a particular place. I recently came across the microsoft programme virtual earth which loads in standard web browser. You just need to install a plugin. It gives US and many part of the Europe including UK. It has got an option 'bird eye view' which has the best clarity aerial picture I have ever seen. I don't think they have got high res. pictures for India yet. But at least for US and UK for the time being, it gives very good pictures. You need to have broadband. To try just go to http://www.local.live.com
Interestingly google maps have reasonably high res. pics of Kerala, and they have even got road maps of main cities in Kerala including Trivandrum and Kochi. To view map and satellite pictures go to http://www.maps.google.com. If you want to try just put kochi, india. Try zooming. You don't need any plugin extra to view google maps

That's right, Siby. I can view my home, Amrita etc from Google map. Resolution is quite high.
