Re: Metformin and gestational diabetes

Reduce insulin resistance - weight loss (life style, pharmacotherapy, bariatric surgery) and treat components. But I guess weight loss would result in 'curing' (as bariatric surgeons claim) of most of the components.

Re: Metformin and gestational diabetes

Hi Siby, You are right. We are routinely using Metformin in our new GDMs and pre-existing T2Ds who become pregnant. NICE recommended its use in 2008 in their revised guidelines See sections 1.1.6.1 (page 12) and 1.2.2.12 (page 18) in http://www.nice.org.uk/nicemedia/pdf/CG063Guidance.pdf And yes, me...

How old are these oak trees?

This is not a trick question, just a good puzzle... Three grand oak trees stood in a row along a stream. They were of different ages. The sum of their ages was exactly one thousand years. When the youngest tree reaches the current age of the middle tree, the middle tree would be the current age of t...

Where are they from in Kerala? Obviously they would want to know about someone local to them, right?
Have they seen any dermatologists here? Privately. It may not be as expensive as you would think.

Re: health care funding

So the system of centrally administered healthcare from a common pot of money sits well with their policies. Having said that every party here would love to offload the NHS from their expense books, but that would be the end of their party's role in national politics. It would be an unmitigated pol...

I think the crux of the issue is the differences in the socio-political ethos of our two (adopted) countries. Reena, you nailed it when you said that Americans are paranoid about Govt playing Big bro and meddling. Here in UK, the Joe public would prefer everything done for them. Britain is a welfare...

Re: health care funding

Bibu, the model of central funding to maintain a 'free at point of care' or even minimally charged health delivery is the ideal. The European/ British systems have proved that it is do-able. To replicate that in India would mean a lot of political will and even more money with checks and balances to...

Why bother, Sunil? WiFi is such a pain, especially if you have a large area to cover and there are solid walls in between.

Look at this.
